COLNE MUNICIPAL HALL

5 - 7 FEBRUARY 2009

5th Pendle Beer Festival

I would like to thank all those people who came to visit Pendle 2009, especially those who overcame transport problems due to the snow in Halifax area – you know who you are Paul/Alex!

Once again we proved what a friendly and social atmosphere we have at the Muni in Colne – I received lots of compliments about the friendliness of the staff and public.

2330 of you came through the doors up until 8:30 on the Saturday evening when we just had to stop to preserve the little beer that remained for the 400 people already inside. By 10:00pm we were dry!. In total 126 different beers were served in pints, halves and third measures – another record. This included 14 extras that we sourced early on Saturday morning.

Our chosen charity benefitted to the tune of £3,800 through their raffle, barrel sponsorship and straight forward donations. Two of the beers were sold in aid of the charity, being Puffing Billy and Ginger Marble.

Food sales were brisk also, with many complements received for the quality and price of the portions.

On Thursday we ran a quiet session, which I have to say was a big success and one we’ll repeat in 2010. All the bands throughout the remainder of the weekend were well received and I think we got the noise level just about right.

The winning beer was by a large margin, Smokey Joes from Hopstar in Darwen. This is the second year running Barry has won this award – our thanks to him and his wonderfully crafted brew.

See you all in 2010 (if not at Clitheroe on 15/16 May!)
